Prince Edward Island continues to be one of Canada's most dynamic provinces, and the latest numbers confirm what many of us who live here already know: this is a place that's going places.
The 2025 Annual Statistical Review released by the Province of Prince Edward Island shows that PEI had the second fastest growing provincial economy in the country last year, with real GDP increasing by 2.8 per cent.
Even more impressive, PEI has exceeded national growth in 10 of the last 11 years, in large part due to the hard work and productivity of the private sector.
Here's what stood out to me
Population Growth
PEI's population increased by 1.6 per cent to a total of 182,657 as of July 1, 2025. People are choosing PEI, and they're choosing it for good reason.
Employment
Employment averaged a new all-time high of 93,500. The job market is strong, and that matters even if you're not looking for work: it means the people around you are building, creating, and investing in this province.
Labour Income
Total labour income increased 6.4 per cent to $5.7 billion. That's real money flowing into real communities.
Housing Starts
Housing starts increased 4.4 per cent for a total of 1,769, the most starts on PEI since 1973. The housing market is active, and new inventory is coming online.
International Exports
International exports increased 1.8 per cent to an all-time high of $2.6 billion. PEI's products are in demand around the world.
Inflation
PEI's Consumer Price Index showed inflation was 1.4 per cent in 2025, down from 1.8 per cent in 2024. Along with Newfoundland and Labrador, this was the lowest inflation rate among provinces. Your dollar goes further here.
What does this mean if you're thinking about PEI?
It means this province isn't just beautiful; it's economically healthy, growing, and attracting people who want to be part of something. Whether you're retiring, downsizing, or just looking for a better quality of life, these numbers tell a story of a place that's thriving.
If you've been considering a move to PEI, I'd love to help you understand what these numbers mean for your specific situation. Every move is different, and I'm here to help you navigate it.
